🚨Mushy Post Alert!!!🚨
So, here I am…an emotional mama realizing my babies are growing up so fast and “oh sh*t, I only have a month left to plan Leo’s first birthday party!” 🤣 Thank goodness I’m just planning the one party (imagine planning two back to back? Fit me for a straight jacket!). When I was pregnant with Leo, Babers (aka The Hubby) and I decided we would trade off birthday parties every year. So, one year Mila would get a party, and then the following year, Leo would get his. We don’t know if this is a solid plan, or if we’re setting ourselves up for disaster, but hey! we’ll roll with it!
Sorry, babes, but this mama is feeling all the feels right now. My baby boy just turned 11 months old which means….he’s going to be ONE…. NEXT MONTH!!!! ::Insert all the crying eye emojis:: How did this happen so soon?! I blinked and bam, here we are! And, can you believe my little Mila Muffin is going to be THREE next month!!!?? (Yup, they’re only two weeks apart!). You guys, I’m legit beside myself right now.
So, sticking with that, Leo is getting his big party this year. But, all of this party planning has got me reminiscing about Mila’s first birthday party. I started looking through photos of it and a) I cannot believe that was three freakin’ years ago, and b) I can’t believe how fun and great everything turned out (well, yes I can, but you know what I mean 😂😉). It was such a fun, sparkly party and I mean, we really didn’t hold back on the sparkle lol. It was an Under The Sea Mermaid theme part that was just FULL of that sparkly goodness (as it should be, am I right or am I right?).
Now, being that Im going down memory lane here, crying to myself like a little baby in the process, how about you join me? (No, not in the crying, but in the memory lane part). Pull up a chair (or, you know, you can just use the one you’re sitting in right now, that’s works too) and check out some of these photos we snapped from that very special day.
For those of you with little mermaids of your own, I’ve notated where I purchased just about everything and provided links for the items that I could, just incase you’re looking to throw the best Under the Sea Mermaid party ever, too! Or, if you want to just throw yourself an Under the Sea Mermaid party…shoot, I won’t judge. I mean, how fun and unique would it be for a 30th birthday? Right!? Heck yea!
(ALSO!!!! Make sure to stay tune next month where I’ll be showing you just how all of my hard work turns out for Leo’s very first birthday party! Ok, without further ado…
Mila’s Under the Sea Mermaid First Birthday Party
The Showstopper…The Dessert Table
I made the cupcakes myself and used a seashell mold to create chocolate seashells as toppers. The pretzels were easy to make too. Used white candy melts and added a couple of drops of blue food coloring, and dipped the pretzels in the mix. Before the pretzels set up I topped them with edible white pearls and the gold fish.
This gorgeous cake and the mermaid tail cookies came from our local bakery, Skiff’s Cakes. Can I tell you how fast all of that went?! Their cakes are seriously soooooo delicious! The little oyster cookies I made using shortbread cookies, white frosting (mixed with a couple of drops of blue food coloring) and added an edible pearl for each. Super easy!
Decor
My friend’s husband is super talented and was able to sketch out Mila’s stats on this framed chalkboard. The framed mermaid sign was part of a printable download I purchased from another great Etsy seller that came with all kinds of goodies like the invitations, thank you tags, birthday banner…all that jazz!
The Centerpieces
Party Favors & Time Capsule
I wanted something fun for Mila to look back on being that she was only going to be one and wouldn’t remember one thing from this party, so I found this adorable mermaid theme time capsule from Etsy and printed out the matching cards for guests to fill out. When she’s 18, I’ll be able to present this little treasure box to her. Hopefully, she loves it! Watch she’s like “Mom, what’s this cr@p?” lol so j/k’ing And how cute are these party favors filled with blue jelly beans and gold fish crackers!
The Birthday Girl
My little mermaid’s outfit was also from Etsy, including the headband. Isn’t it the cutest thing ever!!!? And how cute are these bubbles and gold fish I strung up along with jewel strands!? Made the bubbles by spray painting foam balls, then running clear fishing wire through them (I used a skewer to make the holes). Hot glue the openings on the bottom of each ball along the fishing wire to hold them in place so they don’t all clump together at the bottom of the strand.
The jelly fish were pretty easy too! Took half dome foam pieces from Joann’s and spray painted them pink. Took different types of ribbon fabric and hot glued the ruffly kind on the inside and outside rim, then hot glued the tips of the other strands of ribbon in various areas inside the dome so that the strands would fall nicely and look full. I strong them up using clear fishing wire.
…and, last but not least, The Smash Cake
Another beautiful creation from Skiff’s Cakes! Although Mila wasn’t a fan of getting dirty with it, I did have a bite (or two…don’t judge) and it was delicious! The adorable “1” candle was another great Etsy find (this one is unavailable but here’s a similar one, you can also search Etsy by “Mermaid 1 Candle” for other great options)!
Ok y’all! That’s a wrap on Mila’s fun and sparkly 1st Birthday Under the Sea Mermaid Party! If you want more detail on anything you’ve seen here, or just want to leave a comment, please do so below! I absolutely love hearing from you all!
Also, if you want to see what I did for Mila’s second birthday party (yes, she got two back to back and ONLY because mama was pregnant with baby brother and didn’t want her feeling left out or the like the forgotten child LOL), then check out my post Two-tti Fruitti Birthday Party. Talk about a perfect, colorful summer party!
Til next time, babes!
XO, Jules
