Hey lovelies!
Hope you all had the best weekend. Possibly recovering? If you went to the Dierks Bentley concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, I’m sure you are (I know I am!). Oh my goodness, it was such a fun concert! Lanco and Brothers Osborne were awesome openers, and Dierks Bentley was of course amazing! My best friend surprised me with these tickets as an early birthday present (my bday is Halloween) and it totally made my birthday month. Prior to the show, we had the cutest little picnic on the greens there. I’ve been to this venue a few times in the past but have never gotten there early enough to do this. I have to say, I was so glad we got to this time. We brought all the fixins: yummy cheeses, meats & crackers, olives, preserves, and of course, the important stuff…the wine! If you’re planning on picnicking at Hollywood Bowl, yay! You’ll have a blast! But I have a few suggestions to make your experience easy and fun.
Here are some tips for picnicking at Hollywood Bowl
Think of transportation First
Will you be driving there? Taking the metro and walking? Getting dropped off? How you get there depends on how you will pack for your picnic so I’d say first decide that.
Use a disposable cooler
Even if you drive to the Bowl, I still recommend this because once you’re done with your picnic you can just toss the whole thing. No having to trek back to the car to put anything away. Which gives you more time to get into the venue, because believe me, there will be a line…a lonnnng line!
Use a cooler with wheels or backpack cooler
If you’re just hell bent on bringing a real cooler then make sure it’s easy to hawl or carry. I think one with wheels like this would be perfect. Or this back pack cooler. Not too big, has room for all of your food items, and would be easy to stroll around with.
Pack Light
Depending on where you park or get dropped off at, it can be quite a march to get where you want to set up. So, I suggest packing light. No heavy items (except the wine!) and don’t over pack. We made the mistake of packing one huge cooler bag and let me tell you, I got my work out for the day…in heels…never again!
Use Ziplocks with ice instead of cooler packs
If you plan to chuck everything when you’re done, then make sure that doesn’t include your not so inexpensive cooler packs. I’m not a fan of ice just floating around freely in my cooler (mostly because I don’t want to have to empty it once it melts, I’m lazy what can I say?). Putting ice in a few quart size bags will do the trick and bonus, easy clean up!
Bring wine bottles with twist caps
If you’re keeping with my theme of throwing everything away when you’re done, then you’ll understand why this is important. Twist cap means no cork opener needed, which again means no having to go back to the car to put it away. Also, twist caps just make life easier in general and don’t you want your life to be easy peasy?
If you haven’t thought about picnicking at Hollywood Bowl before a concert, I hope this convinces you to. You really will have a great time. I mean, you can’t go wrong with great company, good wine, yummy food, and an awesome concert to boot! Leave a comment if these tips helped you plan the perfect pre-concert picnic.
Happy picnicking!
