In case you haven’t noticed from my Instagram, I love cheeseboards…there, I said it! I mean I loooove cheese. And wine. Cheese and Wine. Wine and cheese. It’s a beautiful combo! LOL All summer, I’ve worked on honing in my skills, creating lots and lots of cheeseboards. (If you followed my IG stories than you know!) And, now that Halloween is only a couple of days away, I thought how fun would it be to make a Halloween cheeseboard?!
We are big fans of Halloween in the Pizzola household. It’s my birthday, so we always celebrate. The spookier and funner (is that a word?) the better! Normally, I’d have a big party, but since this year is a little bit different (ok, A LOT bit different), we’re opting to only have our parents and siblings over for a very small little get together.
I got to thinking about what appetizers I could serve that would fit the spooky theme. And, thought this Halloween cheeseboard is the perfect option! It also just so happens to be Wine Wednesday today so what’s more fitting for a blog post, am I right? I made this cheeseboard last night with a few things I picked up at the store. Here’s a list of what I got…
The Deets On How I Created This Halloween Cheeseboard
Ingredients
- Cheeses: Brie, Gouda, Blue Cheese, White Cheddar
- Meats: Soppressata, Salami, Pepperoni
- Fillers: Dried Cranberries, Chocolate Covered Almonds, Dates
- Salty Faves: Manzanilla Olives, Kalamatas Olives, Sweet & Spicy Cornichons Piquants
- Fruit: Blueberries, Blackberries, Black Grapes, Figs
- Raspberry Preserves
- Assortment of crackers
I’ll admit, I bought way more than I could fit in my 14″ round cheeseboard, but I couldn’t help myself. Plus, I was hungry when I went to the grocery store so, you know how that is. You could easily make this board with one or two meats, one or two cheeses, one or two fruits, one type of olive, one or two types of crackers and a preserve (or honey). You don’t have to overload it like I did. I clearly just couldn’t help myself.
I put my board together by first deciding where I wanted the silver bowls to go (can be totally random, don’t over think it). Then, I spread out my cheeses so that from any angle someone would be able to access a type of cheese. I cut the brie to look like a coffin and carved RIP in it. Not sure if it actually looks like a coffin, but A for effort, right?
For the meats, I cut the soppressata in rounds and folded the salami and pepperoni so that they look like little flowers. To do so, you just fold the slices in half once, then in half again and place them fold side down. I nestled them around the bowls. I filled in any remaining open spaces with crackers, fruits and the other fillers. Then I filled the bowls with olives, cornichons, and the preserve.
The cheeseboard was topped off with thyme sprigs just for garnish. Added a couple of fake plastic bugs and skeleton hands, and voila! I got myself a Halloween Cheeseboard!
