When it comes to exercising, I have to admit, I do favor a solid HIIT workout. But, every now and then, a good yoga session is just what the doctor ordered! There’s something about taking time for yourself to find your center, listen to your body, and just hear your own thoughts. Now, throw some baby goats in there for some Goat Yoga, and what more could you ask for? Well, wine…you could ask for wine.
But, back to the goats. I stumbled across Goat Yoga when I was researching places I could take my bestie to for her birthday. It needed to have animals that she could pet (or at least interact with) since she is obsessed with animals. OBSESSED. She absolutely loves any chance she can get to attack those unsuspecting creatures with all the hugs and kisses. So, I really wanted to surprise her with something just like that. I got to googling and found Lavenderwood Yoga!
I was blown away! Yoga, on a farm, in the fresh air, with baby goats for my bestie to snuggle?! And it was only 5 minutes from where we live?! Sign us up! No, really. I immediately picked a date and bought our tickets.
Our First Impression
As excited as I was for her, when the day came, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I don’t even remember what I had pictured Goat Yoga to be in my head. Do I hold the goats while I do the poses? Do they climb on my back while I’m downward dogging? LOL Ok, that last one is far fetched but you get what I’m sayin!
As we parked in a separate gated area from the actual farm, I remember thinking how beautiful of a day it was. The sky was filled with pillowy clouds and there was a slight breeze in the air. Not cold, not hot, just a perfect day. And then we saw them. The BABY GOATS!!! We checked in as fast as we could so we could tackle those little creatures with all the hugs!
The Yoga
We picked our spot in the gated area where we were immediately greeted by those sweet baby goats. We put our mats down and got to snuggling them. Already, we felt so relaxed and just happy! Who wouldn’t be happy at that moment?!
Our Yoga instructor began guiding us through each pose. Her voice was calming and soothing. She encouraged us to really be in the moment by taking in our surroundings. By looking up at that beautiful sky and breathing it all in. She was amazing!
The Goats
And the way she incorporated the goats felt fun and and free flowing. We laughed at how vocal one of the them was, joking that he had so much to say. She encouraged us to interact with them and to just enjoy being in the same with them.
I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the goats were. They would roam around and just come right up to you. They would let you hug them, pet them. One even decided to plop down on my bestie’s mat while she was in the downward dog position. It was hilarious!
They were so sweet, and reminded me of puppies (but without all of the hyper activity lol). It made me feel like a kid at a petting zoo. I was truly truly happy in those moments.
The Staff
Once our yoga session was over, the very friendly owner gave us more information about the baby goats, the farm, and how the proceeds go directly back to the care and wellbeing of the goats. You could really see how devoted she is to the farm and to raising these goats to be happy and healthy.
They allowed us to take pictures with the goats and even helped us by placing the goats on our backs for the perfect instagrammable shot! Of course, the goats were not harmed in the making of these shots. I’m thinking those goats either loved the view or thought “these weirdos!”. LOL
Once we were done with our “photoshoot”, we packed up our things and headed out. On our 5 minute car ride home, we reflected on just how much FUN that whole experience was and how light we were feeling. Legit, like a weight had been lifted off of our shoulders. We were also super impressed with ourselves that we were able to actually do the moves, in general (out of shape much? lol).
So, in my honest opinion, my honest review, my honest suggestion…TRY THE GOAT YOGA at Lavenderwood Yoga! You will get a great yoga session in, totally destress, feel invigorated, and quite frankly, have the MOST fun you’ll ever have doing Yoga! You can believe I’ll be doing it again soon!
