Ok so some people may think it’s crazy to be overly involved in the planning of your own baby shower. And by involved I mean basically design the whole thing LOL But what can I say, I’m crazy! The truth is my bestie and my Mom (the two throwing me the party) know my Type A personality so well that they had no problem relinquishing the reigns to me (they know I’m crazy and love me anyway haha). And since this was going to be my second baby in two year, I figured I’d keep it small and easy (well my version of small and easy at least). I knew I didn’t want a full on shower, just a little sprinkle to welcome my sweet baby boy. For my first baby shower (yes I was involved in the planning of that one too lol), we designed a whole elaborate set up at a lake by my house and had to cart everything there! From the decorations, to the tables, to the tents, all of it! It was so much work. Too much! I swore I’d never do that again. So that is where the small and easy comes into play.
Here are some photos and more details of the party.
Details for a tickled blue baby sprinkle
SETUP
My bestie was nice enough to offer her home, saving us all the work of hauling everything (our hubbies were VERY grateful!). We decided to keep the party outside so we would have a smaller area to decorate and to keep cleanup easy (no having to mop up floors or spot clean couches, the worst!).
For my last shower, I had separate tables (typical party set up) but for this party, I wanted my friends and both families (mine and my hubby’s) to sit together like one big family, so I opted to have one long table. And now, this has seriously become my favorite setup, especially for parties like this. Everyone gets to be involved in the conversation and laugh with each other. I just love it!
DECOR
I wanted blue for sure, but not your typical “baby shower blue”. I wanted the overall theme to be a little more chic (my hubby wasn’t a fan. He wanted a sports theme. Silly hubby!). I wanted what I referred to as a Tickled Blue Baby Sprinkle. I chose a slightly darker blue with gold, leaf, and wood accents. That was my feeble attempt at blending chic and masculine (hubby actually liked it so I guess it wasn’t so bad).
My bestie and I made this super cute “Leo” sign for the dessert table. (Comment on this post if you are interested in a tutorial for this sign). I made the cupcakes and cake myself to save my bestie and mom from having to spend $100+ for something I could do for $20! (Stay tuned for my post on How to Make A Naked Cake).
With help from the talented ladies on Etsy, my bestie was able to buy the mommy pin and download pdf’s for all of the signage decor (baby wishes cards, mimosa bar, thank you tags, etc) which she printed at Fed Ex. She asked me what characteristics/traits I hoped my baby boy would inherit from his daddy and then framed my responses like quotes for the table. Such a cute and sentimental touch!
FOOD
We kept the food super simple. Ready made sandwiches from Costco, homemade pasta salad, and the cutest baby carriage fruit bowl (thanks mom!). The “Momosa Bar” was also a hit. And even though I couldn’t partake, my bestie was sweet enough to get me this Cranberry Peach Bellini Mocktail that was oh so yummy.
We didn’t do many games because I wanted more time to talk to everyone. We kept it really simple with Baby Bingo and the Diaper Raffle.
This was such a great party. Everyone had a blast eating, drinking, and laughing. And the best part was we got to celebrate my sweet baby boy! What more can you ask for, right?
